Greetings from Tokyo!
Quite some time passed since I posted my last entry here, but let me tell you: I have been working on this costume little by little!
I decided that I will sew the dress in two parts: First, sewing the body and seconds, do the skirt.
For me, this was the most simple way to do so, after I took quite some time to analyse the costume.
(Which means: Hello Youtube, my best friend, I love to take lots and lots of screenshots XD below you can see some of the ones I took!)
To sew the body I decided to use two kinds of fabric: skin-tone colored one and the black transparent one I was showing in my first entry.
I had two main reasons to choose the skin colored fabric to sew everything on to. One of them is the personal comfort of not being naked 24/7 when wearing the costume after I took a l´closer look
at the screenshots. The other reason was that I was actually fearing that the black fabric might easily rip after applying the ornaments and wearing it. And I really don't want anything to rip
which takes this much of effort. So I decided for another fabric underneath (which I bought for only 164 Yen here! So cheap!) The only important thing about both fabrics is that they have to be
very stretchy since the body is supposed to be skin-tight.
Afterwards, the real fun can start! I usually do all patterns by myself and bought one only once since it's too bothersome for me to alterate the patterns before I can use them. So I take some of
my clothes and alterate those, knowing that those fit me.
But...since I don't have a body or anything similar with me here in Japan I had to creat something from scratch. You best friends in this case will be wrapping foil and something called
'Kreppband' in Germany. I found something similar to it here and used it! Used it...for...?
Well...to wrap myself in wrapping foil and in it!
It is really not comfy and it works best if you have a good friend (shoutout at this point to my girlfriend <3) who can help you with this. Since I'll use this bra as a reference for my costume and trace it for this part of the body and wore it on top of my clothes. As soon as I was wrapped in everything I was drawing the basic shape of the body on it and cut it out. Afterwards you have some parts which you can use to make your own pattern of. It's actually not of my favourite ways of making a pattern, but it always worked somehow though it's very experimental. In this case it's pretty easy and you can't do much wrong, since the fabric is very stretchy and will forgive you some minor mistakes. But back at home I might have done it in another way.
Though the pattern worked amazingly fine I still had to make some adjustments and sew it much tighter. At this point I didn't do the patterns of the sleeves which will come later (At the point where I started doing it I wasn't sure yet if it might work XD First time sewing a body XD).
As soon as I have the whole body together and know that I can share it without any doubts I might upload the pattern so anyone in need can download it.
Not on newspaper of course.
I hoped you enjoyed this progress and I will try to post more frequently from now on!
I'm sorry for my messy way of sewing, but so far it worked fine for me and I managed to sew some things together and made them wearable XDD
It's also the first time sharing my progress in this little steps but I hope you might enjoy them! Usually I only share pictures of my progress if I regard it as 'special' or 'interesting' but I
might continue to share more detailed progress after this project as well. Let's see!
